In today’s Internet environment with an increasing digital presence, where you need to be aware of crime and internet fraud, many people will be highly familiar with the importance of online security, logins, usernames and passwords but if you ask them the question “What is Two Factor Authentication?” the chance is they will not know what it is or how it works, even though they may use it every single day.
Two Factor Authentication, also known as 2FA, is an extra layer of security that is known as “multi factor authentication” that requires not only a password and username but also something that only the user knows, such as an external validation code.
Using a username and password together with a piece of information that only the user knows makes it harder for potential intruders to gain access and steal that person’s personal data or identity.
Using your unique Auth Key from your account here on VPS.ag, download the Authenticator app from Google, present on both Android and iOS devices, to generate an extra code that is unique to your account and only valid for a very short period of time.
1) How to activate 2FA
Download Authenticator app for Android or iOS
Scan the QR Code
Enter your one-time generated code
2) Limit access by IP address
You can use this feature to restrict access to your account to specific IP addresses.
By default all IPs have access.
Enter one single IP per line to enable access for that specific IP.
If 2FA is activated, 2FA will be bypassed for these IPs.
Make sure you enter both ipv4 and IPv6 if you have an IPv6 IP.
The IP restriction cannot be reset. Be absolutely sure you have entered the correct data.
We recommend you to set 2FA as well to have an alternative way to access your account.
Wildcards or subnets are not permitted.
Copy and write down the Auth Key, as it will be the only way to access your account if you lose your phone!
